Step 1. In case of ICE contact or sightings, call the San Mateo County Rapid Response hotline at 1-203-666-4472.
The Rapid Response hotline is open 24/7. Make sure to save this number in your phone. Step 2. Know your rights. Keep the red card handy at all times. If you come across ICE, remember, you have constitutional rights:
Step 3. Have a plan for you and your family in case someone is detained. This plan should include emergency numbers, a list of important contact information and a file with important documents. Whether you want your child to accompany you to your home country in the event you face deportation, or wish for your child to stay in the United States in the care of another trusted adult, you should begin planning to make these arrangements. Step 4. Contact an immigration attorney about your legal options before speaking or signing anything. Find a local, nonprofit legal services organization that can help you find out if there is an immigration option for you to get a green card, work permit or visa, or protect you from deportation. Also, keep a list of these local organizations in case you ever have a problem with ICE. Information provided by Immigrant Legal Resource Center and Faith in Action - Bay Area |
